And they say blue and green should never be seen. I am here to prove them wrong, with another case of clashing patterns too, no less.
On this warm spring morning over a year ago I dressed for work, picking out a relatively new (second hand) blouse and shoes I had bought online at Solestruck – I was struck in particular by the colour of the shoes and the wooden heels. I love real wooden heels and I can’t think of one high street brand in Australia that uses real wood on their shoes – they are always faux; I am not sure why. The shoes feature an unusual combination of design features: they are a sort of super-high platform pair of slingback oxfords!
The blouse has some awesome design features too: trumpet sleeves, a blown-up ikat-inspired print, and a tie on the side (it took me a long time to figure out that the blouse ties on the left in an empire line, and not at the waist on the right). I bought that on eBay, and the seller did not show it tied this way at all! Not helpful. The pattern is a nice contrast to the pinstriped skirt however.
I grabbed the coat at the last minute, although it was too warm to wear in the mornings. Spring evenings in Melbourne can be very chilly however, and this puffer coat saved me more than once. I loved the soft grey colour. Made from silk, it was super-warm, but sadly had its day and went the way of the dodo long ago. I actually bought it second hand for $2, which is amusing considering it was by Armani.
Picking up the turquoise of the shoes, and in the ikat print, the jewellery matches only in colour: the necklace is a chalcedony pendant, the earrings also, although I made these myself, and the ring is turquoise.
