The Importance of Being Earnest

Inspired by the well-known set designer Tony Tripp’s set design for the 1988 staging of the Oscar Wilde play, this staging of the same play also utilises the iconic illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley.

As a senior graphic designer at Melbourne Theatre Company, I had the opportunity to work on this campaign (one of my favourite plays), and the added joy of incorporating some fantastic imagery.

Some of the collateral included indoor and outdoor posters and banners in many formats, a play programme, postcard and an extraordinary wall mural made up of Beardsley’s illustrations. I also did the retouching of the campaign image, placing the actor Geoffrey Rush into an atmospheric period scene.
