Icecreamelicious!
How very cute are these tasty hairpins that arrived today? They’ll be perfect little accessories to wear when strolling along the boardwalk come summer. They’re from the Alice in Wonderland range by Japonicas. They’re making me think of dessert, and I haven’t even had dinner yet!
It Must Be Love
You know those times when you’re out shopping and you fall hard for some delectable little item? You know you don’t need it, you know you can’t afford it, but none of that matters because you really, really love it? It’s like a bad boyfriend, tugging on your purse strings.
It was like that for Lidushka. She had an on/off relationship with Gorman, but one day she gave it another chance, walked through the door, and fell in love all over again … with a striped jumper. Ah, romance.
It was expensive, and she managed to tear herself away from it the first time, but it just kept on tugging at those heartstrings. Finally, one day she could stand it no longer. She marched right back in, laid her money down on the counter and took the little striped beauty home with her.
Here she is in her Gorman jumper, Sportsgirl jeans, Wittner boots (replacements for a dud online purchase that she made in the teeth of my sage advice), and a scarf she inherited from a bridesmaid gig. You can tell by that wide smile that Lidushka is really in love this time. Sigh.
Pattern & Texture
Shirring, pleats, pointelle, polka-dots, hearts, stripes – a glorious collection of pattern and texture, gathered together on the clothes airer after being ironed. All but one of these items are recycled – the multi-coloured polka-dot pleated shirt, which I bought in the late nineties or early noughties. With a wardrobe of these, every day can be dress-up day.
Here Comes the Princess … Bride
This pretty little lace headpiece was a recent Etsy purchase. It is vintage 50s. I didn’t notice until later that the description included the word ‘bridal’. Ooops. I just bought it because I love lace, and was planning to wear it come spring.
The seller also suggested it was Renaissance inspired, and it was not until I tried it on that I saw she was right. I feel a Botticelli moment coming on – I have always loved his painting Primavera.
The Onyx Graveyard
You would THINK I’d learned to be careful after all these years of living with a ceramic tiled floor. After already smashing two black onyx rings. After spending months searching high and low for replacements, trawling online boutiques and making countless tearful phone calls (I exaggerate slightly). But no.
Yesterday I did it again. I just let that ring s l i p from my grasp and drop to the floor, and in those last milliseconds before it crash-landed and smashed into fragments, I felt that familiar resignation stealing over me.
Happily I opened a drawer in my jewellery box and pulled out a replacement, tenderly placing it with my other favourite rings on the stand. I put the fragments in its place with the others – a little pile of shards to make an onyx graveyard.
Now I’d better get back online to find a replacement for the replacement, because sure as check I’ll be needing it soon.
