Carnival Kaleidoscope
I have been busy as a little bee the past few days, but I found time to squeeze in two trips to the Moomba Carnival over the long weekend break. I could not resist the lure of bright lights, and fairground games; Spanish churros and scary clowns or fireworks and ferris wheels. The evenings were so warm you’d think it was still summer. I managed to snap nearly 300 Hipstas and over 400 photos on my DSLR; here are some favourites.
What’s this font?
I like this font, and have done so for a couple of years since I first saw it in someone’s logo. But I can’t track it down! Here it is in the window of Country Road, proclaiming the ankle boot. It looks like Didot or Bodoni, but the K has a bauble instead of a serif (and probably the C, S, etc). Does anyone know what it is?
We Blew Bubbles on a Golden Morning
One of my friends is getting married, and she and all her girlfriends celebrated the fact last Saturday. In the morning we went to Olinda, in the Dandenong Ranges, and after lunch we played croquet! One of the girls had the lovely idea of giving us little party favours of bubble blowers (mine had the lid of a lion). When we weren’t taking a turn on the croquet lawn, we were merrily blowing bubbles, competing to make the biggest one.
I love the look of the newest Hipstamatic lens, Chunky. It has created such a lovely golden light; they’re like old photos from the 70s, already full of faded nostalgia.
The Gentleman of Fawkner Park
Oh, this drawing I walked past yesterday brought back so many childhood memories! Who else recalls scribbling on the sidewalk in coloured chalks, or better yet, some random rock that yielded a lovely colour?
I do like this gentleman’s block feet, hands and face. I wonder if a Leggo man was the inspiration, or perhaps it was an old tin robot?
Got The Blues
Aren’t these colours pretty? Even the names are evocative: Peacock, Iris, Hyacinth, Turquoise and True Blue Dr. Ph. Martin’s Radiant Concentrated Water Colour – my favourite brand. I much prefer liquid water colour to tubes or blocks. They’re easy to revive too, after they dry out in the palette. Sometimes I am happy to use water colour pastels and pencils.
These blue pools in my ceramic egg crate paint palette are getting washed out. Just like our blue skies are being washed out by endless rain. Come back summer!
